Some info on Vera Rønningen MSc.

Vera Rønningen did her degrees in Marine Ecology, her Bachelors of Science at the University of British Columbia, Canada, and her Masters degree at the University of Bergen in Norway. Concerned about the steady decline of the Bull Kelp Beds in her area, she decided to specialize in seaweeds.

Vera offers seaweed workshops during the spring and fall at her home on Hornby Island, in the Comox Valley, on Quadra Island, and recently west of  Sooke. These workshops offer the participants the opportunity to get hands on experience in harvesting, utilizing and recognizing our local seaweeds. See workshop page for more info.

Combining her knowledge of herbs and seaweeds, Vera has created a line of seaweed products called Mermaid's Delight. Please check out the products page for more info on these products.

Recently Vera has rekindled her love of knitting and has created a unique line of natural organic knitted woollens in styles that she sculpts without formal patterns.

All Mermaid's Delight Products are available at the Hornby Island Farmer's Market from May to Oct.  Or contact me for mail order.
